Fossil coral is a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. When volcanoes erupted thousands of years ago the lava dropped to the bottom of the ocean covering coral beds. The coral is then replaced with agate leaving a memory of what the coral looked like.
